-
Any surgical procedure performed on the liver to treat various conditions, including liver disease, tumors, or damage. Common types of liver surgery include:
Hepatectomy: The removal of a portion of the liver. This is often done to remove tumors (both cancerous and benign) or damaged tissue. The liver has a unique ability to regenerate, so even if a significant portion is removed, the liver can grow back.
Liver Transplant: In cases of severe liver disease or failure, a liver transplant may be necessary. This involves replacing a diseased liver with a healthy one from a donor.
Liver Resection: Similar to hepatectomy, but it focuses on removing a specific part of the liver where tumors or cysts are located.
Laparoscopic Liver Surgery: A minimally invasive procedure where surgeons use small incisions and specialized tools to perform surgery on the liver.
Biliary Surgery: Surgery to address issues with bile ducts, which are closely related to liver function.
Liver surgeries are typically performed to treat conditions such as liver cancer, cirrhosis, liver cysts, or injury to the liver.
-
A surgical procedure performed to repair an inguinal hernia, which occurs when tissue, such as part of the intestine, protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal muscles, specifically in the groin area (the inguinal region).
Inguinal hernias are more common in men and can result from heavy lifting, straining, or weakness in the abdominal wall.
-
Gallbladder surgery, also known as cholecystectomy, is a procedure to remove the gallbladder, a small organ located beneath the liver that stores bile, which helps in digesting fats. This surgery is usually performed when the gallbladder develops problems, such as gallstones, inflammation, or infection.
-
Abdominal pain refers to discomfort or pain felt anywhere in the region between the chest and pelvis, often referred to as the stomach area or belly. It can range from mild discomfort to severe, sharp pain and may be caused by a variety of underlying issues.
-
The formation of solid deposits inside the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small organ located under the liver that stores bile, a digestive fluid that helps break down fats. Gallstones can vary in size and may cause symptoms or remain "silent" (asymptomatic).
-
The goal of liver surgery is to remove or destroy cancerous tissue while maintaining as much liver function as possible, given the liver’s ability to regenerate.
